Rev Kirby J Hensley and Dr. John W. Hopkins join forces in the Universal Party, 1964

One of the many "third" political parties that sprang up in the '60s was the Universal Party, which is said to be an offshoot of "The Outer Space Party" or "Flying Saucer Party".

According to church history, in 1963 Rev Hensley changed the name of his Life Church to Universal Life Church to provide better cohesion with a new political party which was named the Universal Party. In 1964, Rev Hensley of the Universal Life Church ran for President on this ticket, which among other items in their political platform called for ambassadorships for aliens from outer space.

The Universal Party held their national convention in Oakland, CA that year. Rev Hensley was nominated to run for President on the Universal Party ticket in 1964, and history maintains that Roscoe MacKenna was his running mate for vice president. That likely is true, because so many people believe it is.

I just wonder how it is John O. Hopkins (actually the father of Dr. John W. Hopkins) is listed as the Universal Party vice-presidential candidate for 1964 in this historic artifact, the 1964 presidential race detail.

Here is the Platform for 1964 Universal Party.
